Our community lost a treasure of a human being last evening. Mr. Chic Simonato (Chic) passed away at the Collingwood nursing home. Both Chic and Mary-Lou made me feel most welcome when I moved into their neighbourhood in 2006. Chic made me feel most welcome when I became an elected official in 1996. He made all of us feel that way. A lot of kind and heartfelt words will be said about our friend and neighbour in the next coming days especially thoughts of how we are such a better Town for his efforts. Our loss is great but it does pale in comparison to the loss for the Simonato family. I am asking that each and every one of us says a prayer of thanks for a life of generousity and further for thoughtful reflection on the loss of one Canada’s greatest generation and most certainly one of our Greatest Citizens, our friend Chic Simonato.Mayor Chris Carrier
